At Stoneleigh Amman Temple, Epsom, Surrey, UK
Navarathiri which means nine nights is one of the greatest and colourful Hindu festivals celebrated in many parts of the world. The festival is dedicated to Durga.
The festival symbolises the triumph of good over evil in human society.
During Navarathiri, Hindus invoke in their worship the energy aspect of God in the form of Divine Mother referred to as “Sakthi” which literally means divine energy. The Divine Mother is also referred to as “Devi” or “Parasakthi” or “Sri Raja Rajeswary” the consort of Lord Shiva-the principal Hindu deity responsible for creation, sustenance and dissolution of all things and living beings in the world. . Hinduism is the only religion in the world which has given such importance praise to the motherhood of God.
