CONSECRATION RITUALS COMMENCE WITH GANAPATHI HOMAM @ SHRI KANAGA THURKKAI AMMAN TEMPLE (EALING, LONDON), May 2011
Sri Ganapathy Homam is said to be the greatest and chief amongst all of the other Homams. Generally, this Ganapathy Homam is done as the start-up of all the other Homams. The great Sri Ganapathy Homam can be done for all-purpose and out first offer or dedication should be for him only. And the reason for doing this Homam is that all the other following things be completed without any distraction and any obstacle in between.
Homam is a Sanskrit word which refers to any ritual in which making offerings into a consecrated fire is the primary action. Homas are an important religious practise in Hinduism. Ganesha is widely worshipped as the Remover of Obstacles, and more generally as Lord of beginnings and the Lord of obstacles (Vighnesha), patron of arts and sciences, and the god of intellect and wisdom. He is honoured with affection and invoked at the start of any ritual or ceremony. Hence Ganapathy Homam is the main Homam in all.
